The short version
HouseHum is built on-device-first. Your home record — systems, specs, paint codes, service log, hum score — lives in your browser's local storage on your device. We do not run accounts, we do not receive or store your home record on our servers, and we do not sell data. Ever.
What stays on your device
Everything you enter: your home profile (age band, heating type, climate zone), your systems and their specs, your service log, task check-offs, and settings. You can export it (JSON or printable record) or delete it at any time from Settings. If you clear your browser data, it's gone — we can't recover it, because we never had it.
What can leave your device, and when
Three features make network requests, all optional and all initiated by you:
AI House Coach (paid, optional). If you subscribe and send a message to the live coach, that message — plus a minimal home summary (system types, install years, filter sizes; never your address, name, or full record) — is sent to our serverless endpoint and relayed to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a reply. We do not store chat transcripts server-side.
Checkout (optional). If you buy a plan, payment runs through Stripe Checkout on Stripe's pages. We never see or store card numbers.
Email list & seasonal checklist (optional). If you ask us to email your seasonal home checklist, or tick a box to hear from us, we send your email address, the interest tags you chose (e.g. homeowner, home-maintenance), and how you found us to our subscribe endpoint. We never send your home record — no appliances, paint codes, filter sizes, service history, or address. That data stays on your device. Both email checkboxes are off by default; you can one-click unsubscribe from any message.
Cross-product marketing (Apps 4 That) — DRAFT, pending counsel
Apps 4 That LLC builds several apps. If — and only if — you check the separate box saying you'd like to hear about our other apps, we may combine the interest tags you consented to share across A4T apps into one marketing profile, so we can tell you about a sibling app you'd actually find useful (for example, homeowners hearing about Yardable). This uses a device-local identifier we call a "passport," never a third-party tracking cookie and never any fingerprinting. It does nothing unless you give an email and check that cross-product box. You can opt out at any time. This section is a working draft describing intended behavior; it will be finalized with counsel and a unified Apps 4 That privacy policy before public launch.
Processors we plan to use
When HouseHum launches publicly, these third parties will process limited data on our behalf:
- Vercel — hosts the site and serverless endpoints (standard server logs, e.g. IP addresses for rate-limiting and abuse prevention).
- Stripe — payment processing for paid plans.
- Anthropic — processes AI Coach messages to generate replies.
- GitHub — until our email provider is finalized, if you ask us to email your checklist or tick a contact box, your email address, chosen interest tags, and consent record may be stored in a private Apps 4 That store hosted on GitHub as an interim lead store. This store may move to a dedicated email service provider at launch; this page will name it when it does.
- Email service provider (the Apps 4 That newsletter platform, provider to be named on finalization) — stores your email address, chosen interest tags, and consent record to send the checklist you requested and any updates you opted into. Provider selection is pending; this list will name it before launch.
Each processor's own privacy policy governs its handling. We will keep this list current in the final policy.
What we don't do
- No advertising, ad trackers, tracking cookies, or cross-site tracking pixels. We use Plausible Analytics for aggregate, cookie-free page and event counts only.
- No sale or sharing of personal information.
- No accounts, passwords, or profiles held by us.
Children
HouseHum is for adults managing a home and is not directed at children under 13.
